Are Writers Talkative?

Misconceptions abound overtime that writers are talkative. What a myth! Whoever came about that ‘slogan’, I still wonder.

Writers-in-Real-Life
I was chatting with a girlfriend last week and she told me I had better quit writing else I would forever remain single. I was shocked and my mouth hung open. I tried to decipher the relationship between writing and relationship/marriage. She took her time to explain that her boyfriend –now ex- always emphasize that writers are talkative. And that her friends always agree with him. They claim writers always try to make their opinion count, always trying to shove it down people’s throat. And at the end of the day, they always write about what other people have discussed with them, presenting it wrongly.

No we do not do that. We would never present you in a bad light. We would never write about what you said to us in confidence. Even if we have to, it must be with your permission. It is wrong to rub dent someone image publicly because you think you can.
How could someone even think about that? Every writer has different situations where they draw their inspiration from. For some it is from their conversation with others, others via what they read or see, while some get inspired from solitude.
Writing is a skill, a means of reaching out to others. Most writers are introvert who find solace in writing. I used to say Writing for me is a way of being in control. I get to control my characters and their destinies in ways I can never control them in real life. Most writers are product of circumstances. Many choose writing as a way of voicing their opinion on issues they cannot air publicly.

If people’s constant dropping of their ideas makes them talkative, fine! But saying they are garrulous in the literal way is so wrong. People should be appreciated for their craft, they should be applauded for how they can cook words and make it pleasant and appealing to readers. Not everyone is gifted to write, the few who can should be celebrated.

I stand to say writers are not talkative neither are they snitches!
